Newsletter September 2013

Bridges are being built, modernized, and demolished every day. Some stand for all time, others soon collapse in on themselves – be that on a material or personal level. In some connections, material objectives and personal enjoyment merge and clear a path to setting aside ‘unbridgeable’ differences. And then there are others simply linking up various spheres.

For an end-to-end document process, from the incoming mailroom to the long-term archive, most of our customers have need of a ‘bridge’ with an architecture oriented toward reliability and throughput capacity. We help users to efficiently organize their daily tasks; we help IT managers with adaptable, easily integratable software; and we help archivists with a legally conform and standardized solution.

Our bridge-builders at PDF Tools are the development team. Their software programs erect bridges between specialist applications, users, and a long-term archive. Learn more about how customers are using our PDF products in the following success stories.

A survey initiated this spring closely examined practical uses to which the 3‑Heights™ Document Converter is being put, as part of the continuing effort to keep our ‘building blocks’ effective. A big thank you to all respondents who took the time and helped us gather the information. Analysis confirmed that our ‘Product Roadmap’ is indeed on track. Suggestions and wishes received are making their way into the development process. Should you want to know more about the 3‑Heights™ Document Converter, we suggest you read our whitepaper.

I wish you interesting reading about our reference customers, and of the white paper.
Enjoy a golden autumn and greetings from Switzerland.

PS: PDF Tools AG now publishes a blog to keep you updated on events happening between issues of the newsletter. Our lead author is Dr Hans Bärfuss, who reports on the PDF ‘universe’ and PDF Tools AG. And another thing – you will discover the location of that fantastic bridge in the newsletter photo.

We will be pleased to be of help if you require further information on PDF Tools and its products but are unable to find it online. Please get in touch with us via pdfsales.

Success Story Magistrate’s Office City of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland

“As the PDF and PDF/A format is an important tool for archiving, signing and exchanging documents via the Internet it is impossible to manage without a high-performance, scalable PDF machine. The 3‑Heights™ Document Converter copes with all kinds of “raw material” and converts it into the desired PDF format using numerous different parameters. Having direct contact with the developers is one of the decisive factors for the success of such a complex product. It is the only way of ensuring that problems are analyzed and remedied quickly and efficiently. PDF Tools AG gets top marks from us in this regard.”

Markus Bietenholz, IT Manager,
City of Zurich Magistrate’s Office

Up to 2,500 documents from wide-ranging sources reach the Magistrate’s Office DMS every day. Specialized software tracks every document’s origin and status, and is able to process their conversion to PDF/A independently at the appropriate times. The application then decides which documents require an electronic signature. For process efficiency, conversions in progress are parallelized by load-spreading across four terminal server sessions.
