Newsletter February 2017

Made a good start to the new year? We’re already well underway! PDF Tools just turned 15, and we’d like to thank everyone who’s played a part in our success. We wouldn't be where we are today if it weren’t for our customers, partners, employees and friends. Thank you – we look forward to many more exciting, innovative and successful years ahead!

As the temperature drops below freezing outside, keyboards are clattering away without pause in our development department. We might have frozen our fingers skiing in the mountains, but now we’re all warmed up again and ready to focus on programming rather than making the perfect snowball.

Release 4.8 doesn’t introduce any new products; rather, it focuses on improving existing ones. The following developments are worthy of particular note:

  • In the 3-Heights™ PDF Extract Tool, new characteristics have been added to the text extraction, including non-standard ligatures and improved Unicode processing.
  • In the 3-Heights™ PDF Printer, recognition of PostScript printers has been improved so that the corresponding print data streams can be better optimized. Watermarks can now also be applied to the background.
  • The 3-Heights™ Image to PDF Converter tool now offers an expanded interface with more options for converting images into PDF documents, e.g. upsampling and downsampling.

Besides these changes, many more improvements have been made to enhance all our products. For example, the product version can now be retrieved via all API  interfaces. You can find more information in the current release notes.

But we haven’t just been working on the release – we’ve also been polishing up a little thank you gift for you. Look out for more details about that soon... ;-)

Have fun reading the release notes, and have a good winter!

Improved render quality in the healthcare industry with the 3-Heights™ PDF to Image Converter

The ability to display medical documents in PDF format is becoming increasingly important. The libraries that were used in the past were unable to meet the ever-increasing requirements for detail and image fidelity. The 3-Heights™ PDF to Image Converter considerably improves the legibility of all documents. A warning sent to the medical staff in the case of rendering problems increases patient safety even further.

High-quality, high-performance PDF/A digitalization for long-term archives

Interhyp was won over by our 3-Heights™ PDF to PDF/A Converter thanks to its technical superiority, performance and production quality, which enabled the efficient migration of a traditional paper archive to a long-term digital archive in the financial services sector.

Murphy's Law - from capturing to archiving

Companies have to strike a balance between profitability, feasibility and meeting legal requirements. A long-term digital archive, in which all information about the company and its activities is recorded, can form part of the solution. An archive with reliable tools and structures makes it possible to create case-specific files automatically.
